The Plan

Take 2 Options

* Mix Tomato Marmalade remnants with browned ground beef, tofu or tempeh for 'Sloppy Joes' - use leftover buttermilk biscuits or purchased buns
* Pair a bowl of Carrot Orange Sunshine Soup with Hummus or a small Harvest Salad for a hearty lunch
* Float a few warmed Roasted Cauliflower Slices in the soup or mix with some balsamic vinaigrette as a topper to a mound of greens
* The extra roasted chicken will set you up for the gratin and the Barbecued Chicken Panini

Shopping List

  • 1 large bag Baby Spinach
  • 1 bunch Broccoli
  • 1 head Cauliflower
  • 1 bunch Celery
  • 2-3 lbs Carrots
  • 1 quart Large white mushrooms
  • 6-8 Yellow onions [or a 8-10 lb bag]
  • 2-3 Lbs Potatoes [Yukon gold or yellow fin if you see them]
  • 2 large Navel oranges [or 1 cup of juice]
  • 2 Apples [Fuji, Gala, what you like]
  • 16 Oz Apple Cider
  • 1 Qt Milk [I use fat free - you need 1-2cups for recipes)
  • 1/2 - 1 Doz Large eggs You''ll need three - the rest are up for grabs
  • 2 cups or 1 Qt Buttermilk
  • 2 Oz Strong Cheese [like a sharp cheddar]
  • 1/2 Lb Unsalted butter [you need 1 stick for recipes]
  • ~ 1 Cup Blue Cheese, Crumbles
  • 8 Oz 70% cacao chocolate, bittersweet
  • 1/2 Cup Raisins or Currants
  • 1 Cup Steel cut oats
  • 4-6 Cups Chicken or vegetable stock [less if you will make your own]
  • 1 15 Oz Can Garbanzo beans/Chick peas
  • 2-4 Ciabatta Rolls [Consider extra for freezer]
  • 1 Package Pita whole wheat
  • 6-8 Bone-in, skin-on split Chicken breasts [again - vegetarian fed, all natural]
  • Do you have olive oil and some toasted sesame oil?
  • Do you have about 1 Cup All purpose Flour and Baking powder?
  • Spices: Cinnamon, Sea Salt, pepper to grind
  • Do you have a handful of walnuts?
  • Optional - 4 Tbsp Raw Cacao Nibs
  • 1/2 Cup Tahini


Shopping day – make the soup and roast the chicken – see the blog on Basic Chicken for tips on making stock & shredding and packing for later in the week. That night have the chicken, potatoes and cauliflower for dinner.

Night 2 – make the chicken, broccoli and mushroom gratin with biscuits.

When you are pressed for time make the panini or the Spinach Salad.

Set up the Crockpot Oatmeal the evening before your first weekday – package for the week in ~1/2 Cup servings – Eat as is or swirl with some plain whole milk yogurt from Argyle Cheese farmer – AWESOME!

You might have some Tomato-Onion Marmalade in your freezer for Sloppy Joes – soo good on buttermilk biscuits, even stale ones 😉
